I compared seven European web hosts on price, renewals, data centre location, GDPR and support. Here's who each one suits, starting with my top pick, EuroDNS.

Choosing the **best web hosting in Europe** isn't just about the cheapest monthly price. If you run a business or a client site in the EU, you also care about where your data lives, whether the company signs a GDPR data processing agreement, what the plan costs after the first year, and whether support answers in your time zone.

I compared seven hosts that European businesses actually shortlist: EuroDNS, Hostinger, IONOS, SiteGround, Infomaniak, OVHcloud and Hetzner. I went through each provider's plan pages, renewal prices, money-back terms, data centre information and customer reviews, and checked every price on 20 October 2026. This is a research-based comparison, not a speed benchmark: I haven't run my own uptime or load tests.

## Quick picks: the best European web hosts

1. [EuroDNS](https://eurodns.pxf.io/L0qEL0): **best overall for European businesses.** Domains, DNS and Plesk hosting from one Luxembourg company, with reasonable renewal prices and phone support.
1. **Hostinger: best for the lowest starting price.** Very cheap on a long term, with servers in five European countries.
1. **IONOS: best for lots of storage and sites.** Unlimited websites and 100 GB or more on every plan from a German provider.
1. **SiteGround: best for managed WordPress performance.** Five European data centres and a strong toolset, but steep renewals.
1. **Infomaniak: best for privacy and data sovereignty.** Swiss, employee-owned, with its own data centres and a 30-day free trial.
1. **OVHcloud: best value for many small sites.** Fifteen sites and 100 GB on a cheap plan from a French provider.
1. **Hetzner: best for developers on a budget.** Low prices, no minimum contract and servers in Germany.

## European web hosting comparison at a glance

Here's how the entry-level plans compare. Prices are the first-term price for the cheapest shared plan, in the currency each provider shows. Some include VAT and some don't, so I've noted which.

## The real cost: first-year price vs. renewal

Most hosting deals are introductory. The number that matters for a business site is what you pay from year two onwards, so here are the published renewal prices for the same plans.

The pattern is clear: the cheapest headline prices (Hostinger and SiteGround) come with the biggest jumps at renewal. EuroDNS, OVHcloud and Hetzner stay much closer to their starting price, which is a big part of why EuroDNS is my top pick.

## 1. EuroDNS: best web hosting in Europe for most businesses

EuroDNS is best known as a domain registrar. It's based in Luxembourg, has been ICANN-accredited since 2002, belongs to the Namespace group and holds ISO 27001 certification. Its hosting runs on **Plesk**, so you manage domains, files, databases, email and security from one familiar dashboard, next to your domains and DNS.

### Why EuroDNS is my top pick

- **Everything in one European account.** Domains, DNS, SSL, email and hosting sit with one EU company, with one bill and one support team. For agencies juggling client domains, that's a real time saver.
- **Sensible renewals.** Starter renews at €67.10 a year, about €5.59 a month. That's a fraction of what Hostinger or SiteGround charge after the first term.
- **NVMe storage and real resources.** Starter has 20 GB NVMe, 512 MB of memory and unmetered bandwidth. Growth jumps to unlimited sites and 100 GB; Business Pro gives 200 GB, 1 GB of memory and double the I/O.
- **Backups and staging.** Daily backups on every plan, on-demand backups and one-click staging from Growth up.
- **Developer tools when you need them.** Business Pro adds Git, SSH, WP-CLI and advanced PHP controls.
- **Human support.** EuroDNS says its support comes from multilingual in-house experts, not an outsourced call centre, and you can phone the team in Luxembourg.

### EuroDNS hosting plans and prices

Monthly billing is available too (€2.99, €5.99 and €9.99 a month), and yearly billing saves 20%. If you'd rather not manage WordPress yourself, EuroDNS also sells **managed WordPress hosting**: WP Essential at €7.99 a month (20 GB) and WP Scale at €11.19 a month (50 GB, with SSH and Git), both with caching, vulnerability scanning and a free domain for the first year.

### Where EuroDNS falls short

- **Data centre location isn't published.** The hosting pages don't say where the servers are. If your contract or client requires a specific country, [ask EuroDNS](https://eurodns.pxf.io/L0qEL0) before you buy.
- **A 14-day money-back window.** That's half what Hostinger, IONOS and SiteGround offer, so test it straight away.
- **Starter is one site and one database.** Fine for a single business site; for more, Growth is the plan to buy.
- **Mixed Trustpilot reviews.** EuroDNS scores 2.9 from 323 reviews. Most complaints are about domain renewals, auto-renew refunds and checkout steps rather than hosting, while praise focuses on fast support. Turn off auto-renew on anything you don't need.
- **Prices exclude VAT,** so EU customers will pay their local VAT on top.

**Who should choose EuroDNS:** small businesses, agencies and freelancers in Europe who want domains and hosting under one European roof, with predictable renewals and a proper control panel. For most, **Growth** is the best-value plan.

## 2. Hostinger: best cheap web hosting in Europe

Hostinger is the budget favourite, and it has the strongest European server footprint of the low-cost hosts: France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands and the UK for web hosting. Premium costs $2.49 a month for three sites and 20 GB, and Unlimited costs $3.49 a month with 50 GB NVMe and daily backups. Both include a free domain for a year and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

- **Watch out for:** those prices need a 48-month prepayment, and Premium renews at $10.99 a month. Premium also only gets weekly backups. Plan for the renewal price, not the headline.

## 3. IONOS: best for storage and unlimited websites

IONOS is one of Germany's largest hosts and describes its web hosting as running on geo-redundant European infrastructure. Every plan includes unlimited websites, at least 100 GB of NVMe storage, daily backups, a free domain for a year and a 30-day money-back guarantee. On the German site, Webhosting Standard is €3 a month for six months, then €6, including VAT.

- **Watch out for:** a €10 setup fee, intro prices that last only six months on most plans, and just one 2 GB mailbox on the entry plan.

## 4. SiteGround: best managed WordPress hosting in Europe

SiteGround runs on Google Cloud and has five European data centres: London, Madrid, Eemshaven in the Netherlands, Frankfurt and Paris. Plans include daily backups, a free CDN, email and, from GrowBig up, staging. StartUp is $3.99 a month (excluding VAT) for one site, 10 GB and about 10,000 monthly visits.

- **Watch out for:** the steepest renewals in this list. StartUp renews at $17.99 a month and GrowBig at $29.99. Storage is also small for the price.

## 5. Infomaniak: best for privacy and data sovereignty

Infomaniak is a Swiss, employee-owned company that runs its own data centres in Switzerland, holds ISO 27001 and says its services comply with both GDPR and Swiss data protection law. Web Hosting starts at €5.75 a month with 250 GB SSD, 20 websites and a free email address, and you can try it free for 30 days. Backups are stored in a second data centre, and you can restore any site to its state up to seven days earlier.

- **Watch out for:** Switzerland isn't in the EU. Data can move freely to Switzerland under the EU's adequacy decision, but check whether your contracts require EU-only hosting. There's no rock-bottom intro price either.

## 6. OVHcloud: best value for several small sites

OVHcloud is a French cloud provider that runs its own data centres. Its Personal plan is €2.99 a month (excluding VAT) for the first year, then €5.99, and covers 15 websites, 100 GB of SSD storage and 10 mailboxes, which is a lot for the money. A free domain is included for the first year.

- **Watch out for:** the web hosting page doesn't say which data centre hosts your site, prices exclude VAT, and the plan range is confusing (several plans share almost identical specs and prices).

## 7. Hetzner: best for developers on a budget

Hetzner is a German provider known for very low prices. Its web hosting runs in its own data centre park in Nuremberg, with daily backups and no minimum contract. Webhosting S starts at €1.60 a month (excluding VAT) with 10 GB and unlimited mailboxes, and the price doesn't jump at renewal.

- **Watch out for:** no free domain (domains cost from €4.90 a year), only one database on the entry plan, and a no-frills experience aimed at technical users.

## How to choose web hosting in Europe

### 1. Compare renewal prices, not intro prices

A $2.49 plan that renews at $10.99 costs far more over three years than a €2.39 plan that renews at €5.59. Always check the renewal price and the minimum term behind the headline number.

### 2. Check where your data is stored

For GDPR, where your data is stored matters less than who processes it and how. But many businesses and public-sector clients still require EU (or EEA) hosting. Hostinger, SiteGround, IONOS, Hetzner and Infomaniak say where their servers are. If a host doesn't, ask before you sign.

### 3. Look at VAT and currency

European hosts often show prices without VAT, while some (like IONOS Germany) include it. Add your local VAT rate to compare like with like, and check whether you'll be billed in euros or US dollars.

### 4. Think about domains and email

Keeping domains, DNS, email and hosting with one provider means fewer logins and fewer things to renew. That's the main reason I rank EuroDNS first for businesses: it's a registrar first, with hosting and email built around your domains.

### 5. Match the plan to your site

- **One brochure site:** any entry plan works; prefer one with daily backups.
- **Several sites or client sites:** look for unlimited websites and staging, such as EuroDNS Growth, IONOS or OVHcloud Personal.
- **WooCommerce or busy WordPress sites:** prioritise memory, NVMe storage and caching, such as EuroDNS Business Pro, EuroDNS managed WordPress or SiteGround GrowBig.

## Is EU web hosting required for GDPR?

No law says your website must be hosted inside the EU. GDPR is about how personal data is handled, wherever it sits. Your host acts as a data processor, so what you need is a **data processing agreement (DPA)** under Article 28, a clear list of subprocessors, and proper safeguards for any transfers outside the EU.

In practice, picking a European company with European data centres makes this much simpler: fewer international transfers to document, and less exposure to non-EU laws such as the US CLOUD Act (worth checking even with European hosts that run on US cloud platforms). That's why European businesses tend to shortlist the hosts in this list. Hosting is only one part of compliance, though. Your cookie consent, analytics and contact forms matter just as much.

## How I compared these hosts

I compared each provider's cheapest shared or web hosting plan, plus the plan most small businesses would actually buy. I looked at:

- **Price:** first-term price, minimum term, renewal price, setup fees and whether VAT is included
- **Resources:** websites, storage type and size, memory, databases, mailboxes and bandwidth
- **Data and compliance:** company location, published data centre locations and certifications
- **Safety nets:** backups, staging, SSL, money-back guarantees and free trials
- **Reputation:** public customer reviews, where available

All prices were checked on the providers' websites on 20 October 2026 and can change at any time, so confirm the current price at checkout. ## My verdict: the best European web hosting

If you want the cheapest possible first year, Hostinger is hard to beat. For maximum privacy, choose Infomaniak, and Hetzner is the pick if you're a developer counting every cent. For most European businesses, agencies and freelancers, though, **EuroDNS is the best all-round choice**: domains, DNS, email and Plesk hosting from one EU company, NVMe storage, daily backups and renewal prices that don't punish you for staying.

Start with **Growth** if you'll run more than one site, and use the 14-day money-back window to move a real site across before you commit.
