GitDoc Review: AI Docs That Sync With Your GitHub Repo, From $69 Once

Why I looked at GitDoc

Documentation goes stale the moment code changes, and keeping it updated is the job nobody wants. GitDoc promises to fix that by writing docs from your repository and suggesting updates on every commit. With more people using AI coding agents, it also makes those docs readable by agents through MCP. The AppSumo deal starts at $69 once.

I went through the listing tier by tier, the buyer reviews and questions, and GitDoc's own pricing page and llms.txt file. Here's what I found.

What GitDoc actually is

GitDoc is a hosted documentation platform. You connect a GitHub repo through GitDoc's GitHub App, or give it an OpenAPI spec, a website, PDFs, Office files or even video recordings, and it generates product docs, an API reference or a changelog. You edit the result in a visual editor or as raw MDX, publish it on your own domain, and visitors can ask an AI search box questions about it.

It isn't a static site generator you run yourself. Your docs live on GitDoc's servers, although every change is backed up to a Git repo you control and you can export everything as Markdown or MDX.

The features that stood out to me

Docs that follow your code

This is the main idea. GitDoc watches your repository and, when code changes, proposes updates to the affected pages, rather like a pull request for your docs. You accept, reject or edit each one, so the AI doesn't overwrite anything without you.

Many ways to start

Besides a repo, you can start from an API spec, a website crawl, uploaded documents, a plain-English description or a video. GitDoc's team told one buyer that turning webinars and long recordings into docs is one of its strongest uses.

MCP for AI agents

Every tier includes MCP and API access. GitDoc says its MCP server has more than 47 tools, so Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or VS Code can read and edit your docs directly, secured with OAuth or API keys.

Your domain and your exit

Even Tier 1 includes a custom domain with automatic SSL, plus SEO and AI-search improvements. If you leave, the Git backups and Markdown export mean you aren't locked in.

Where GitDoc falls short

• Tier 1 is small. One documentation site, two sections, five files per section, ten AI generations and 50 visitor AI questions a month. Those limits are close to GitDoc's free plan; what you're mainly paying for is the custom domain.
• Confusing tier names. The deal terms call the tiers Essential, Pro, Business and Agency, but each tier's limits match the GitDoc plan one step lower. Judge each tier by its limits, not its name.
• Early buyer reports are mixed. There are three reviews averaging three tacos. One buyer couldn't find the section and PDF import option weeks after contacting support (the founder says they can't reproduce it), and another found the AI chat answered correctly once and then failed, and asked for a refund. The five-taco review is from a tester who got the product free and says so.
• Team features cost more. Team invites, private internal docs and removing "powered by GitDoc" start at Tier 3 ($279). Role-based access needs Tier 4.
• Security paperwork is still coming. GitDoc runs its own models in US data centres and also uses Google Gemini, and says your inference requests aren't used for training. SOC 2 is described as a work in progress.
• GitHub only, as far as I can tell. GitDoc describes a GitHub App. GitLab and Bitbucket aren't mentioned, and a question about Forgejo was unanswered.
• AI costs may change. The deal terms say access to future AI models may be discounted or may need an add-on.

GitDoc pricing: lifetime deal vs. monthly

Bought directly, GitDoc has a free plan, then Essential at $25 a month ($240 a year), Pro at $75 a month ($720 a year) and Business at $250 a month ($2,500 a year). Paid plans have a 15-day free trial and no per-seat charges. All prices are in USD, checked on 1 November 2026.

On AppSumo, the tiers cost $69, $129, $279 and $399 once. Comparing like for like:

• Tier 1 ($69) has free-plan limits plus a custom domain and MCP. It's worth it only if one small docs site on your domain is all you need.
• Tier 2 ($129) matches Essential's limits, except visitor AI questions are capped at 100 a month. It pays for itself in just over five months of Essential.
• Tier 3 ($279) matches Pro's limits and team features. It pays for itself in under four months.
• Tier 4 ($399) matches Business's limits for less than two months of that plan, although the listing doesn't mention Business's uptime SLA.

This is an AppSumo Select deal, so it's covered by the We Got Your Back guarantee. You have 60 days to activate and 60 days to ask for a refund, and you can upgrade while the deal is live.

What other buyers are saying

With only three reviews, there isn't much to go on. The positive review describes connecting a GitHub repo and getting accurate docs that were ready to publish. The critical ones are about features that didn't work as expected, and they're recent. I couldn't find any independent YouTube reviews, only a short read-out of the listing and AppSumo's own video.

My verdict

If your code is on GitHub and your docs are always out of date, GitDoc's approach is genuinely useful, and the MCP access is a nice extra for anyone using AI coding agents. I'd skip Tier 1 unless you need just one small site, and look at Tier 2 or Tier 3 for real projects. Given the mixed early reviews, use the 60-day refund window to test it on a real repo. If that sounds good, get GitDoc on AppSumo.
